TCU Forensics wins Pi Kappa Delta national debate title

TCU Forensics had an impressive showing at the 2016 Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Tournament held at the University of Kentucky. 87 schools competed at the tournament which hosts competitive events in three genres of competition: limited preparation speaking, public address and oral interpretation.

Eight members of the TCU team garnered several awards. Team President Timothy Betts (’17) led the charge by winning the national championship in Public Debate. This is the first national title in the history of TCU Forensics. Betts also placed third in Impromptu Speaking, as well as several semi- and quarter-finalist finishes.

Team Administrative Officer Colten Meisner (’17) also saw semi- and quarter-finalist finishes at the tournament. Overall, TCU received a total of 12 awards.

“This is our strongest showing as a team since its inception,” Dr. Amorette Hinderaker, Convener of Debates and Assistant Professor of Communication Studies, said. “With each year of competition, TCU is gaining a national presence in the intercollegiate speech and debate community.”

TCU Forensics recruits at the beginning and end of each regular semester. Students interested in joining the team can contact Dr. Amorette Hinderaker at a.hinderaker@tcu.edu or visit forensics.tcu.edu for more information.
