Frogs Come up Big in Return to In-Person Competition

Following a hiatus from in-person debate competitions, the TCU Speech and Debate team won several awards at the Eddy Shell Invitational held at Bossier City Community College in Bossier Parish, Lousiana.

The TCU Speech and Debate program traveled three hours to compete at the Eddy Shell Invitational held in Bossier Parish Lousiana over Saturday, February 19th and Sunday, February 20th. In their return to in-person competition, the team had one competitor reach the elimination rounds in three of the four divisions of competition.

The elimination rounds for the Novice and Varsity divisions of IPDA debate broke to double-elimination rounds and the Junior-Varisty division broke to an octo-final round. Ryan Debish, a junior from San Diego, California, advanced to the quarter-final round of Varsity IPDA debate. Caroline Quevedo, a freshman from Seattle, Washington, advanced to the Octofinal round in the Junior-Varsity division. Kareyn Hellmann, a Sophomore from Paris, Texas, advanced to the octo-final round in the Novice division.

Three members of the team made their in-person collegiate debut at the competition and two of the first-year members of the team, Quevedo and Hellman, made their competitive debut in the elminiation rounds.

The TCU Speech and Debate team will travel to compete in the IPDA National Debate Competition held in Abiliene, Texas from April 8th, 2022 until April 11th, 2022.
