TCU takes first place at the Golden Eagle Swing

TCU Forensics attended the 5th annual Golden Eagle swing this past weekend at John Brown University. The Frogs took fourteen competitors to Siloam Springs, Ark.

The Frogs were tournament champions for the overall swing, which included debate and both days of the swing. They also won third for both days of the swing in individual events. TCU Forensics also took four of the top five spots in overall individual sweepstakes. Timothy Betts took first and Kelsey Fahler was second. Erika Simonson was fourth and Donald Griffin took fifth.

In parliamentary debate, the Frogs were first overall and swept the semifinal round. The team of Erika Simonson/Eleanor Brown took first over Timothy Betts/Kelsey Fahler. The teams of Donald Griffin/Duy Pham and Katie Brown/Paige Michel were non-advancing semifinalists.

On Day one of the swing, TCU advanced six competitors to 13 spots in individual event finals. Griffin was the tournament champion in impromptu speaking for day one. He also took fifth in after-dinner speaking. Betts took third in rhetorical criticism, fourth in poetry and persuasion, fifth in extemporaneous speaking and sixth in impromptu speaking. Betts took fifth in the overall quadrathon. Fahler was fourth in poetry, fifth in rhetorical criticism and sixth in extemporaneous speaking. Pham took third in extemporaneous speaking, and Simsonson took fourth in informative speaking. Michel was also sixth in persuasion. Newcomer Alma Luna was named Top Rookie in Impromptu speaking.

Day two of the swing brought more hardware for the Frogs.

Fahler was the tournament champion in poetry for day two. She also took third in rhetorical criticism. Betts was second in extemporaneous speaking and fourth in rhetorical criticism and poetry. Andria Miller took second in after-dinner speaking at her ADS tournament debut. Griffin was fifth in ADS. Katie Brown was fifth in persuasion and sixth in extemporaneous speaking. Michel was sixth in extemporaneous speaking. Simonson was fourth in informative speaking for day two of the tournament as well. Luna was named Top Rookie in extemporaneous speaking Connor Heaney was Top Rookie in impromptu speaking.
